Anna Eimerl of Kalinka²

Today's blogger portrait introduces Anna Eimerl, editor of hipidy-hip style and fashion blog Kalinka².

Follow the jump below if you don't know a) who Oksana Robski is, b) what kind of photos Anna prefers to use or c) how to handle below the belt online discussions...

What's your name, how old are you, and what do you do for a living (or all day, for that matter)?

Kalinka aka Anna, a proud 24 and currently waiting for a university placement. Plus I sold my soul to  a company called edelight where I run wild writing texts about design-related stuff.

How long have you been blogging? How did you get around to blogging?

I started at Wordpress in 2007 and moved to Blogspot in 2008. That's when I started Kalinka². I was inspired by a friend who edits her own travel blog.

What's your blog called and why?

My blog has no and many names at once, Kalinka..Kalinka, Kalinka², Kalalinkaka or just Kalinka. Why? Good question. I'd love to be able to tell a more profound story here, but I just got the name from a book title. So: Thank you Oksana Robski, Russia's no. 1 bestselling author.

What are you blogging about? Why?

I write about cosmopolitan fashion flubdub and style culture. Writing is a ventile that creates room for stuff where my head is too full. I blog to share beautiful things, to practice constancy, to create a platform and network. I write about fashion as none of my friends is interested in it, because it comes easy and because I want to grant it more artistic value. We all occupy ourselves with it, starting from the clothes we choose when shopping and dressing. It's just that no one admits to it, because they're afraid to sound arrogant or superficial. Fashion journalism is the journalism most often smiled at.

Who's your target audience?

I don't care, whoever likes to should read my blog. Whether old or young, man or woman, fashion freak or critic, I'm happy about anyone.

Who designed your blog? How much was that? In case you designed your own layout: Where did you learn how to?

Cough, my ex-boyfriend. Next question...

Which software and which host do you use? Can you recommend them?

I only ever use Blogspot, although I'm not always happy with it. Wordpress is probably more recommendable, as it offers the most possibilities for further development. I would love to switch back or change stuff, but my insufficient technical knowledge gets in the way.

What role play photos, MP3-files or video clips on your blog? If you use them, would you mind showing us one?

I like to post photos and videos as a way of illustration of posts. I tend to use press images, as I rarely blog about private matters.

How many readers do you have? How many would you like to have? Does their number matter to you at all?

When I post regularly, I get around 200 visits a day. There's no certain number I aspire to, all I want is for what I write to be read at all. Without readers I'd take up knitting... Praise, comments, and criticism keep me going, without responses there is no resonance. No readers, no text.

Can you learn how to blog? Do you need to know a lot about computers? Do you have any advice for beginners?

I taught myself by trial and error. I'd love a forum or platform to exchange tips, offered skills, and information, though. My advice is to go for it and not be shy and ask other bloggers for help. Like self-help assistance.

Have you made negative experiences with blogging, too? What kind?

Not really. But I tend to stay away from mud-wrestling anyways. The anonymity the Internet provides is often misused to offend people kindergarten-style. When you stick to your own morale, though, you should be fine.

And have you ever made money through your blog? If yes, how so?

No. That's a very hot topic in the blogosphere currently. I don't find ads despicable and have been thinking about posting some myself. Mostly since blogging is a very time-consuming activity, really. And what's better than earning money with what you love doing? We're talking very small sums here. Again, I'd love to have a forum where I could exchange myself with others on these things, for information, companies, experiences, and so forth.

Do you use twitter, too? Why (not)? What pros and cons do you see when it comes to twitter?

No. So far I haven't quite gotten the point of it, and until I will, I won't tweet. Also my phone doesn't have Internet access, so I wouldn't be able to report live or be spontaneous. I'm happy with my Facebook group. Too much make-up is too much make-up. C'est ca.

Which other female bloggers can you recommend? Why?

I can recommend eVe without adam a lot. They're a whole bunch of women, blogging on music, the arts, events, and fashion. Something of everything, but too much of nothing. It's bilingual, German and English, with a column on love, different city chapters, and what not. (http://evewithoutadam.net)

Ein Dank also an Oksana Robski, Russlands Bestseller-Autorin Nr. 1.

Worüber bloggst Du? Weshalb?

Welche(n) anderen frauengeführten Blogs kannst Du empfehlen? Warum?
(http://evewithoutadam.net)
