Mici of talkasia

Everyone, please meet Mici of talkasia - a German blog between beauty, fashion and Asian pop culture.

If you'd like to find out (amongst other things) why to Mici running a blog feels like being a talk show guest and why good blogs are those whose authors you get to meet in real life, please follow the jump!

What's your name, how old are you, and what do you do for a living (or all day, for that matter)?

My name is Mici, I am 20 years old and work in banking. Whenever I don't work or blog I study business, play computer games or meet up with friends.

How long have you been blogging? How did you get around to blogging?

It depends what you mean by blogging. I had my first website when I was 13, at the time hosted with beepworld. That developed into own servers and graphic design until I wrote my first blog post on December 7th, 2008. I was with Blogspot for a while in between, but I really only started blogging on talkasia at the beginning of this year (2011).

What's your blog called and why?

TalkAsia - I was talking to a friend and we were pondering possible names. I wanted a catchy, short one that would stick with people and at the same tame let everyone know what I was about. I see the blog almost as a talk show, since I am presenting myself and allow for comments and criticism - just like on TV.

What are you blogging about? Why?

I blog about stuff that I would be interested in reading on other blogs. Fashion, food, travelling or everyday life. I get the impression may blog readers would love to meet their favorite bloggers in order to be able to better identify themselves with them.

Who's your target audience?

Everyone from young to old. Whoever is interested in my life. I'd love to reach a large and diverse mass of people. Whoever runs a website wants feedback.

Who designed your blog? How much was that? In case you designed your own layout: Where did you learn how to?

I designed the header myself. The code was written by my boyfriend. We're autodidacts. Anyone can do that if they take the time to read into it. I was given Photoshop at 14 (must have been version 5 or 6 at the time) and just started. Typically, the first stuff you do with it looks shit, but after a while you get a feeling for colours, forms and detail.

Which software and which host do you use? Can you recommend them?

Photoshop 7.0 and CS2 for all things design; Wordpress as Blog Engine; Windows Movie Maker for Videos - recommendable. My host is www.mods4you.de - but I got the Webspace privately.

What role play photos, MP3-files or video clips on your blog? If you use them, would you mind showing us one?

Photos play an important role, I always bring my camera or use my mobile. If something pops up during the day, I'll record it and put it on display later. Very rarely I feature video clips, too, but only if I produced them myself.

How many readers do you have? How many would you like to have? Does their number matter to you at all?

According to Google Analytics I get between 50 and 100 visits a day. In my wildest dreams, I would get so many readers that I could make a living from blogging.

Can you learn how to blog? Do you need to know a lot about computers? Do you have any advice for beginners?

Bloggen is for everybody. There are so many blog hosts where you can just set one up and post pictures from your desktop immediately. My advice would be to only blog about topics you like and are interested in personally. Issues that you have something to say about. There's no point in trying to please others just for the sake of it.

Have you made negative experiences with blogging, too? What kind?

So far I haven't - thank God. I have heard from other bloggers who have received "hate comments". [N.B. If you have, send them to hatr.org.] That's sad, blogging should be fun.

And have you ever made money through your blog? If yes, how so?

As yet there haven't been any noteworthy earnings - I'm still in the early stages with talkasia, but I hope that one day that will change.

Do you use twitter, too? Why (not)? What pros and cons do you see when it comes to twitter?

Yes. My nick is @talkasia - I like twitter for brief news that wouldn't work as a blog post. I think news are easier to share via twitter than via a blog post.

Which other female bloggers can you recommend? Why?

My favorite blogs are listed in my blog. I generally prefer blogs whose authors are up for real life meetings. Not too long ago I've met with Summer Lee (http://summer-rain-and-cupcakes.blogspot.com/) an Jenny (http://jriceball.blogspot.com/).

Seit wann bloggst Du?

Welche(n) anderen frauengeführten Blogs kannst Du empfehlen? Warum?
